CLEANING UP FOR GOOD

Touching the Tide was excited to be working with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) on a Beachwatch project in schools. Through this, students gained first-hand experience of the beach litter issues in Suffolk and explored local solutions.

Jenny & Lauren from MCS  came to Suffolk to get the project off the ground and met the teachers involved.  The project started with a beach clean at Sizewell.

In further workshops, the students worked in small groups with MCS. They identified local trends with specific litter items or litter sources using both their own data as well as that collected by Beachwatch volunteers in Suffolk over the last ten years. Their challenge was to work out solutions to key problems and think about how they can make real changes on the ground.

At the end of the challenge, the students had the opportunity to present their research to MCS experts who selected a winning group from each school. The overall winner is being supported by MCS to realize their project.

You can see more about the project, and how it went, in this MCS video.
